Sunday morning fundraiser for Dan's Fund for Burns

Those of you that know me well, will know that I am a Trustee for Dan’s Fund for Burns, a UK based charity helping Burn Survivors.

I became involved with the charity following my own burns incident back in 2007. My top caught light on a tea light candle and I went up in flames. I was left with 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my back and left arm and underwent numerous operations for several years.

The charity was brought to my attention by a close friend, who had seen Polly, the founder on the news - it was the anniversary of the Bali Bombings which happened back in October 2002.

Polly was the sole survivor from a party of 10, losing her husband, and several close friends. The charity was set up in their memory and to aid Burn Survivors here in the UK.

Whilst the charity didn’t help me directly, it provided me with comfort and a friendly ear when I needed it. As time went on I got more involved, fundraising through running events, an outlet that became my sanctuary at the time and helped with my recovery, alongside yoga of course! I soon became an Ambassador and then in more recent years a Trustee.

As the charity is very close to my heart I’ve decided to dedicate one of my weekly online yoga classes, to raise funds for it.

The current situation with Covid-19 means that, as a charity, we’ve already had to cancel a number of events, missing out on opportunities to fundraise. With uncertainty for the rest of the year, we’re not sure how many more events we will need to postpone and as a small charity every penny counts!

Yang to yin class

The class will be a 60 minute Yang to Yin practice. For those new to yoga - Yang is typically a sequence of postures that aim to build muscle and strength. Yin is a more restful part (or as my husband says, ‘the sleeping part’), where we’ll maintain postures on the floor for slightly longer moments to really work into the connective tissue around the body.

Both parts will encourage connection with breath and hopefully leave you feeling happier and calmer.
